Home Schooling

Home schooling is a legitimate way of providing for the educational needs of any child. It is a method of education where the parent teaches the child at home.

Parents register their children with the relevant Board of Studies to be authorised to home school and have regular moderator visits from the government. This is in contrast to distance education, where students register with the school, therefore moderator visits are not required.

Parents are ‘primary educators’, assuming total responsibility for all aspects of their child’s education, whereas parents with children in distance education are ‘on-site supervisors’ with teachers developing lesson plans online. Home schooling parents accept responsibility for developing, implementing and evaluating their child’s learning program.

Australian Christian Home Schooling (ACHS) provides support to families with children from Kindergarten to Year 12 who choose to home school.
